TULSA, Okla. – The North Dakota State University baseball team dropped the series opener of a three-game Summit League series at Oral Roberts, 10-3, on Friday evening, April 1, in front of 727 spectators at J.L. Johnson Stadium in Tulsa, Okla.
With the loss, NDSU falls to 11-11 overall and 2-5 in Summit League play, while ORU improves to 15-10 on the season and 5-2 in league action.
Sophomore third baseman
Mason Pierzchalski tallied the Bison's only hit of the game, a single to center field in the top of the fifth-inning, and scored a run to lead NDSU.
NDSU's three runs in the contest came on a wild pitch in fifth and a two-run fielding error in the sixth.
Left-handed pitcher
Zach Mayo (0-3) took the loss on the mound for North Dakota State after surrendering seven earned runs on eight hits in 4 1/3 innings with five strikeouts and four walks.
First baseman Brent Williams and shortstop Trevin Sonnier both collected four hits and belted two-run home runs to lead Oral Roberts at the plate.
ORU right-handed pitcher Bryce Howe (2-1) allowed just one hit in seven innings with seven strikeouts and one walk to earn the win on the mound for the Golden Eagles.
The Bison and Golden Eagles are scheduled to play game two of the series at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 2, at J.L. Johnson Stadium.
