PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. –
Brayden Resch hit a RBI double down the right field line, and
Juan Gamez followed with a one-out sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning to help the North Dakota State baseball team overcome a 3-2 deficit and defeat the Maine Black Bears in the Snowbird Baseball Classic on a warm Friday afternoon, March 4, at North Charlotte Regional Park.
With the win, the Bison improved to 7-1 overall while Maine dropped to 3-6.
Resch tallied a run, RBI and double, while
Ben Petersen hit his second triple of the season and drove in a run, leading the Bison at the plate. Freshman
Alec Abercrombie scored two runs.
NDSU right-hander
Luke Lind (2-0) tallied the win on the mound after tossing 3.1 innings in relief of starter
Zach Mayo, who went 4.2 innings and struck out a career-high eight batters.
Sean Terres pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning with a pair of strikeouts and a ground out to secure his team-high third save of the season.
The Bison trailed 3-2 entering the bottom of the eighth-inning after Maine's Colin Ridley hit a two-run home run with two outs in the top of the seventh to give the Black Bears their first lead of the game. Abercrombie was hit by a pitch to lead-off the inning, moved to second on a wild pitch, and scored on Resch's double to tie the game at three. After

Ben Petersen was intentionally walked to load the bases with Gamez coming to the plate. The Tucson, Ariz., native hit the second pitch he saw into left field, plating Resch for the go-ahead run.
Ridley led the Black Bears at the plate with his two-run homer, while Jake Osborne added a pair of hits and one RBI. Charlie Butler (0-2) took the loss on the mound for Maine after giving up two earned runs.
North Dakota State is scheduled to continue play in the Snowbird Baseball Classic on Saturday, March 5, with games against St. Bonaventure and Boston College.
