NDSU Baseball Edges Mary Tuesday Evening, 1-0

FARGO, N.D. – Ben Petersen scored the winning run on a wild-pitch in the bottom of the ninth-inning to lift the North Dakota State University baseball team to a 1-0 walk-off victory over the University of Mary Marauders on Tuesday, April 12, in front of 277 spectators at Newman Outdoor Field.

With the victory, the Bison improve to 16-13 overall, while Mary drops to 5-21 on the season.

After eight scoreless innings, Petersen led-off the ninth with a double to right-center, before advancing to third base on a passed ball and scoring on a wild-pitch with Brayden Resch at the plate, securing the victory for NDSU.

Drew Fearing tallied two hits, including a double, to lead the Bison at the plate, while Petersen and JT Core both posted the only other hits in the game for NDSU.

North Dakota State pitchers Parker Trewin, Jordan Harms, Colin Baumgard, and Brian VanderWoude combined to toss a four-hit shutout, striking out 14 batters while walking just four.

VanderWoude earned the victory after tossing a scoreless eighth and ninth inning with three strikeouts and two walks to improve to a team-best 6-1 overall on the mound.

Tom Imholte, Connor Doll, Sean Hennen and Clay Bassingthwaite each posted a hit to lead the Marauders.

Reliever Ryo Takenaka suffered the loss on the mound to fall to 1-1 overall.

North Dakota State is scheduled to host the University of North Dakota on Wednesday, April 13, at 5 p.m. at Newman Outdoor Field.
