Photo GalleryFARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State University baseball team plated 15 runs on 14 hits to roll to a 15-4 seven-inning victory over the University of North Dakota on Wednesday, April 13, in front of 761 spectators at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo.
With the win, NDSU improves to 17-13 on the season, while UND drops to 6-18 overall.
Sophomore
Drew Fearing went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and drove in four runs to lead North Dakota State.
Mason Pierzchalski,
Jeron Terres and
Logan Busch each compiled two RBIs, while
Paul Funk,
Ben Petersen and
Danny Regan tallied two hits apiece.
Junior right-handed pitcher
Luke Lind picked up the win on the mound for NDSU after allowing no earned runs on no hits in two innings with two strikeouts and no walks to improve to 4-2 overall.
The Bison scored seven runs in the bottom of the third-inning to open up an 8-2 advantage after falling behind early, 2-1. Pierzchalski plated the opening two runs of the frame on a single to right field before Terres brought home NDSU's third run of the inning on a sacrifice bunt. After a pair of walks loaded the bases, Busch increased the Bison lead to 5-2 with a two-run infield single. Fearing batted in the final two runs of the frame on a double down the right field line.
NDSU continued its offensive surge in the bottom of the fourth, scoring four runs to balloon the lead to 12-2.
Brayden Resch opened the scoring with an RBI single down the right field line before Terres doubled to right, plating Resch and extending the North Dakota State lead to 10-2. Fearing smacked a two-run single up the middle to score the Bison's third and fourth runs of the inning.
UND trimmed the lead to 12-4 with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth, but NDSU responded in the bottom-half of the inning with a trio runs on a passed ball, Funk RBI single and North Dakota fielding error to push its advantage to 15-4.
Hunter Walsh, Daniel Lockhert, Ellery Bresnahan and Zach Heaser each drove in a run to lead UND in the batter's box.
Brandon Radmacher (0-1) took the loss for the Fighting Hawks on the mound after surrendering five runs, two earned, on five hits in 2 1/3 innings with five strikeouts and one walk.
North Dakota State returns to Summit League play on Friday, April 15, at 3 p.m. at South Dakota State in Brookings, S.D.
