BROOKINGS, S.D. – South Dakota State University defeated the North Dakota State University baseball team, 11-3, in the first game of a three-game Summit League series on Friday, April 15, at Erv Huether Field in Brookings, S.D.
With the loss, the Bison drop to 17-14 overall and 5-8 in Summit League play while SDSU improves to 11-22 on the season and 7-6 in league action.
Seniors
Paul Funk and
Taylor Sanders both collected two hits, while junior
Ben Petersen drove in three runs with his second home run of the season to lead NDSU.
Left-hander
Zach Mayo (1-4) suffered the loss on the mound for the Bison after giving up seven earned runs on 11 hits in 4 2/3 innings with seven strikeouts and two walks.
Center fielder Paul Jacobson paced South Dakota State, going 3-for-4 at the plate with two homers and five RBIs.
Right-handed pitcher Andrew Clemen (3-5) earned the win for SDSU after surrendering only three earned runs on nine hits in eight innings pitched with seven strikeouts and no walks.
Game two of the series is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, April 16, in Brookings.
