NDSU Beats SDSU 10-1 to Sweep Summit League Softball Series

BROOKINGS, S.D. — Alyssa Reina and Logan Moreland combined to go 4-for-6 with seven runs batted in as North Dakota State defeated South Dakota State 10-1 on Saturday, April 16, at Jackrabbit Softball Stadium. The Bison swept the Summit League softball three-game series from SDSU and extended their Summit League regular season win streak to 19 games.
 
NDSU (27-13) is scheduled to play at Wisconsin (22-16-1) in a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Wednesday, April 20, in Madison. The Badgers are playing at Iowa in a Big Ten three-game series this weekend.
 
North Dakota State started quickly with four runs in the top of the first inning. Reina singled down the right field line to drive in Cheyenne Garcia and Moreland. Julia Luciano followed with a RBI single through the left side to score Reina. Luciano then crossed the plate on Zoe Stavrou's single to right center.
 
The Bison capitalized on three SDSU errors and a pair of hits to extend the lead to 7-0 in the top of the fifth. Moreland singled to left to knock in a pair, while Reina doubled to center to drive in the other.
 
NDSU closed out the scoring in the top of the fifth. Katie Shoultz beat out an infield single and Moreland belted a two-run double to left center.
 
Jacquelyn Sertic (19-6) retired the first nine and 12 of the first 13 batters she faced. She lost the bid for her second no-hitter of the season in the fifth. Sertic struck out six, allowed two hits and walked two.
               
North Dakota State finished with 10 hits. Luciano joined Reina and Moreland with two hits apiece.
 
Lyndsey Crist and Lauren Chirnside came up singles in the seventh for South Dakota State (14-29, 2-7 SL). Bryanna Clark (7-12) picked up the loss. Clark allowed four earned runs, walked two and struck out one.
