Alyssa Reina went 5-for-7 with a home run, triple, double and five runs batted in to power North Dakota State University to 7-1 and 10-2 wins over Western Illinois in a Summit League softball doubleheader sweep on a windy and rainy Saturday, April 23, at the Ellig Sports Complex. The Bison have won 21 straight Summit League regular season games.
North Dakota State (29-13, 11-0 SL) is scheduled to play Western Illinois (11-30, 4-7 SL) at 10 a.m. Sunday, April 24, at the Ellig Sports Complex to close out the three-game series. The game was originally scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
The Leathernecks took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning after loading the bases on three walks. Hailey Duwa's infield single to shortstop pushed across the run with two outs. Duwa collected two hits overall.
Logan Moreland tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the third when she lined a home run to center. It was Moreland's team-leading ninth home run of the season.
Reina, a redshirt junior from Auburn, Calif., went 3-for-3 in the opener and helped to rally NDSU from an early 1-0 deficit. She led off the fourth inning by sending the first pitch over the tall chain link fence in right field and on the running track to put the Bison ahead 2-1. It was Reina's fifth home run of the season.

NDSU widened the margin to 4-1 in the bottom of the fifth. Reina singled to center to score

The Bison closed out the scoring with three runs in the sixth inning.
Katie Shoultz singled home a pair, while Moreland doubled to knock in the third. Moreland finished with a pair of hits.
Kaitlyn "KK" Leddy (8-7) recorded the win in relief of starter Jacquleyn Sertic. Leddy entered in the top of the second and shut down Western Illinois. She retired 10 in a row from the third to sixth innings. Leddy struck out four and issued now walks in six innings of work.
Emily Ira (5-13) and Payton Abbott pitched for the Leathernecks with Ira picking up the loss. The pair combined to strike out six and walk two.
North Dakota State jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Moreland's ground out pushed across Shoultz, Reina delivered a RBI double down the left field line and
Jackie Stifter singled up the middle to drive in another.
NDSU made it 4-0 in the second on Garcia's sacrifice fly to right field, then exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Reina hit a towering two-run triple to center that the wind pushed back and hit off the fence. A wild pitch chased home

Western Illinois averted the shutout in the top of the fifth inning. Tierney Bottino lifted a sacrifice fly and Kelsey Marlow hit a RBI single.

Sertic (20-6) recorded the win in game two. She struck out four and issued no walks. The Bison had 12 hits led by Garcia, Reina and Stifter, who both had a double and single. Moreland added two base hits.
Kacyee Hart (5-13), Brooke Stulga and Megan Lotarski pitched for Western Illinois with Hart picking up the loss. The trio combined to walk six and hit two batters. Nina Maggio had two hits for the Leathernecks.
