Ninth Inning Rally Falls Short as Bison Drop Series Finale to Oral Roberts, 4-3

Box Score (PDF)

FARGO, N.D. – A ninth inning rally fell short as the North Dakota State University baseball team fell to Oral Roberts, 4-3, on Sunday, May 1, at Newman Outdoor Field to conclude a three-game Summit League series against the Golden Eagles.

With the loss, the Bison fall to 23-19 overall and 9-12 in Summit League play, while Oral Roberts improves to 26-15 on the season and 15-6 in league action.

NDSU attempted to rally from a 4-1 deficit with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, but came up short. Mason Pierzchalski singled to right field, before scoring on Juan Gamez's RBI double to left to make it 4-2. Logan Busch followed with an RBI single to right, plating Gamez to trim the ORU lead to 4-3, but a ground out ended the Bison threat.

Busch and Pierzchalski both tallied two hits, with Busch also driving in a run, to lead North Dakota State. Gamez doubled and drove in a team-high two runs.

Freshman right-handed pitcher Jordan Harms (1-2) suffered the loss on the mound for the Bison after surrendering three earned runs on six hits in 5 1/3 innings with two strikeouts and one walk.

Nick Rotola went 3-for-5 at the plate with three RBIs and a double to lead Oral Roberts.

Reliever Josh McMinn (5-2) earned the win for ORU after allowing no earned runs on two hits in three innings with two strikeouts and a walk.

North Dakota State is scheduled to host Concordia-Moorhead in a non-league game on Tuesday, May 3, at 6:30 p.m. at Newman Outdoor Field.
