GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The North Dakota State University baseball team claimed a 4-2 victory over the University of North Dakota Fighting Hawks on Wednesday, May 4, in front of 800 spectators at Kraft Memorial Field.
With the win, the Bison improve to 25-19 overall, while UND drops to 7-28 on the season.
Sophomore
Jayse McLean went 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored to lead NDSU, while junior
Danny Palmiscno compiled a hit, RBI and scored a run. Senior
Paul Funk worked two walks in the contest and added a hit.
NDSU right-hander
Alex Rogers (2-2) earned the win on the mound after allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits in five innings with five strikeouts and three walks. Left-hander
Chris Choles pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn his first save of the season.
After North Dakota took a 1-0 lead with a run in the bottom of the first, the Bison scored three runs in the top of the second to gain a 3-1 advantage. Palmiscno scored NDSU's first run of the game on an RBI single to right field, before McLean crossed home plate on a wild pitch to put the Bison in front, 2-1. Palmiscno scored on a passed ball for the third run of the frame.
NDSU added another run in the top of the fourth after McLean scored on another UND wild pitch.
Hunter Walsh went 2-for-4 in the batter's box to lead the Fighting Hawks.
Pitcher Luke Hansen (1-1) suffered the loss after giving up three unearned runs on two hits in two innings with a walk and a strikeout.
North Dakota State is scheduled to take on Omaha in the opening game of a three-game Summit League series on Friday, May 6, at 6:30 p.m. at Newman Outdoor Field.
