FORT COLLINS, Colo. — Lindsey Knudsen connected for 20 kills and Sarah Chase had 16 to lead Saint Mary's College to a 3-1 (25-23, 25-18, 23-25, 25-19) win over North Dakota State on Sunday, Aug. 28, at Colorado State's Moby Arena.
North Dakota State (0-3) is scheduled to play at Wyoming (0-3) at 6 p.m. CT Monday, Aug. 29, in the UWyo Sports Complex.
Knudsen and Chase led the Gaels (2-1), which outhit the Bison .299 to .216 during the match. Lindsey Calvin had 11 kills, while Aubrey Pitts added nine. Mary Hernandez and Hannah Liserra combined for 57 assists.
Saint Mary's jumped out to big leads in three of the four sets. The Gaels led 19-12 in the first set before NDSU whittled the lead to 23-22 and 24-23 on kills from
Emily Miron and
Hadley Steffen. SMC hit .394 to take the second set before the Bison offense heated up.
North Dakota State, which hit .381 in the third set, gained its first lead since the first point of the match on
Alex Erickson's kill at 4-3. NDSU extended the lead to 15-10 on kills from
Jessica Jorgensen, Steffen and Miron. However, the Gaels tied the set late at 22- and 23-all before an
Emily Minnick kill and Erickson ace.
Jorgensen led the Bison with 11 kills, followed by Minnick and Steffen's 10.
Brianna Rasmusson and
Monica Claxton combined for 41 assists, while
Emily Milligan came up with 13 digs. Erickson finished with eight kills, a pair of blocks and an ace. Minnick topped NDSU with three blocks.
