ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Sophomore
Holly Enderle tallied her second hat-trick of the season as the North Dakota State University women's soccer team coasted to a 5-1 victory at UNC Asheville on Friday evening, Sept. 16, at Greenwood Field.
With the win, the Bison improve to 4-4 on the season, while the Bulldogs of UNC Asheville drop to 4-5 overall.
Senior midfielders
Lizzie Lukas and
Lauren Miller also both scored goals in the match.
Enderle, a native of Plymouth, Minn., scored her first goal of the match off a Lukas assist in the 16th-minute to give the Bison a 1-0 lead. Enderle increased the NDSU lead to 2-0 in the 42nd-minute after she scored her second goal of the contest off an
Amy Yang assist.
Miller built the North Dakota State advantage to 3-0 after netting her first goal of the season on a perfectly placed corner kick in the 54th-minute.
The Bulldogs scored a goal in the 61st-minute to trim the Bison lead to 3-1, but Enderle answered, completing her hat-trick with a goal off a
Mariah Haberle assist in the 70th-minute to give NDSU the 4-1 advantage.
Lukas scored her second goal of the season off Haberle's second assist of the match in the 72nd-minute to balloon the North Dakota State lead to 5-1.
With the hat-trick, Enderle now has a team and Summit League-high six goals this season.
NDSU outshot UNC Asheville in the match, 21-15, and tallied a 10-4 advantage in corner kicks taken.
Goalkeeper
Monica Polgar earned the win between the posts for the Bison after making five saves and surrendering just one goal in 90 minutes, improving to 4-4 on the season.
Paige Trent led the Bulldogs with a goal and two shots on goal.
UNC Asheville goalkeeper Keller Dixon suffered the loss in-goal, falling to 4-3 overall.
North Dakota State is scheduled to close out its two-match road trip with a contest at UNCW on Sunday, Sept. 18. First kick from Wilmington, N.C., is slated for noon CT (1 p.m. ET).
