Texas Tech Rallies Past North Dakota State 3-2 at NDSU Classic

FARGO, N.D.--Lauren Douglass connected for a match-high 16 kills, Courtney Ensch followed with 15 and Toni McDougald added 11 as Texas Tech University rallied for a 3-2 (21-25, 25-27, 25-22, 25-12, 15-11) win over North Dakota State University on Friday, Sept. 2, before 863 spectators at the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse to close out the first day of the NDSU Classic presented by Cambria Hotel & Hampton Inn.

NDSU (0-5) is scheduled to play Northern Illinois (4-1) at 12:30 p.m. and Bradley University (2-2) at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, at the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.

Trailing 2-0 in the match, Texas Tech (3-2) won the pivotal third set. The score was tied 14 times in the third, the last at 21-all on Jessica Jorgensen's kill. The Red Raiders went on a 4-1 run to close out the set highlighted by kills from Katy Kennan, Douglass and McDougald.

Texas Tech rode the momentum and hit .375 in rolling to a 25-12 win in the fourth to force a fifth set.

NDSU and the Red Raiders were tied five times early, the last time at 6-all on Hadley Steffen's attack. Texas Tech took advantage of Bison attack errors, along with a pair of kills from McDougald, another from Ensch and one from Keenan to build a 13-8 advantage.

Texas Tech outhit North Dakota State .260 to .139 in the match paced by the 57 assists from Marguerite Grubb. Douglass provided a match-high five blocks and Ensch added four as the Red Raiders held a 10-7 edge in team blocks.

Emily Minnick had 14 kills to lead a group of four NDSU players with double-figure kills. Steffen finished with her third double-double of the season with 13 kills and 14 digs. Emily Miron had 13 kills, while Alex Erickson added a season-high 12 kills. Brianna Rasmusson recorded 47 assists, 14 digs and four kills.
