Mariah Haberle scored two goals in a span of two minutes to help the North Dakota State University women's soccer team earn a 2-0 shutout win over Omaha in The Summit League opener for both teams on Thursday, Sept. 29, at Caniglia Field in Omaha, Nebraska.
With the victory, the Bison improve to 6-5-0 overall and 1-0-0 in league play, while the Mavericks fall to 2-8-2 on the season and 0-1-0 in league action.
With the match scoreless in the second-half, Enderle broke through for North Dakota State in the 72nd-minute, netting what turned out to be the game-winning goal off a rebound shot from
Amy Yang. It was Enderle's team and Summit League-high seventh goal of the season.
Haberle provided an insurance goal just two minutes later when she stole an Omaha pass and blasted it into the back of the net, increasing the Bison advantage to 2-0. It was Haberle's second goal of 2016.
The NDSU defense limited the Mavs to just two shots, both wide of the goal, in the final 15 minutes of the match to secure the win.
For the match, the Bison outshot the Mavs, 15-11, including a 6-2 edge in shots on goal.
North Dakota State freshman goalkeeper
Monica Polgar (6-5-0) earned her fourth clean sheet of the season after surrendering no goals and making two saves in 90 minutes between the posts.
NDSU is back in action on Sunday, Oct. 2, at Oral Roberts. First kick is slated for 1 p.m. in Tulsa, Okla.
