NDSU Defeats Fort Wayne 7-2 to Complete Summit League Series Sweep

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Vanessa Anderson went 3-for-4 and tied a school record with two home runs as North Dakota State defeated Fort Wayne 7-2 in a Summit League game played Sunday, April 2. The Bison complete the series sweep with the win.
 
NDSU (3-0, SL, 15-21) is scheduled to host IUPUI (3-0, 13-19) in a Summit League three-game series on April 8-9 in the home opener at the Ellig Sports Complex. The Jaguars host Indiana State on Tuesday.
 
Anderson, a 5-foot-8 sophomore from Rochester, Minn. (Byron H.S.), became the 15th Bison to hit two home runs in a game. Her first long ball led off the top of the fifth and her second started the top of the seventh to stretch the lead to 7-2. Anderson has seven home runs this season. The record has been achieved 26 times.
 
North Dakota State struck first and took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Bre Beatty started things with a RBI infield single and Tabby Heinz stroked a two-out, two-run single.
 
The Bison extended the lead to 5-0 in the top of the second. Zoe Stavrou belted a two-run home run to center to score Stephanie Soriano. It was Stavrou's seventh home run of the season.
 
Fort Wayne (0-3 SL, 7-26) cut the deficit to 5-2 in the bottom of the fourth on Sierra Miranda's two-run home run.
 
NDSU finished with 10 hits. Soriano, Beatty and Heinz each had two hits. Maria Palmegiani had two of Fort Wayne's base hits.
 
Jacquelyn Sertic (11-15) struck out 11 and walked one to record the win for the Bison. Sertic reached double-figure strikeouts for the eighth time this season and 14th time in her career. She ranks second nationally with 210 strikeouts.
 
Elizabeth Snodgrass, Bailey Benefiel and Demitra Burns pitched for Fort Wayne with Snodgrass taking the loss. The trio combined to walk four and strike out three.
