NDSU Gains Doubleheader Split at Omaha, Avoids Sweep

OMAHA, Neb. – North Dakota State rebounded from an 11-0 loss in game one with a 3-2 win in game two to gain a split in a Summit League doubleheader played at Westside Field on May 6. The Mavericks won two of three games in the series.
 
NDSU finishes the regular season with an 11-7 record in league play and 24-30 overall. The Bison are scheduled to host The Summit League tournament on May 10-13 at the Ellig Sports Complex. Pairings for the tournament will be announced Sunday.
 
Bre Beatty led off the second game with a home run to left field to give NDSU its first lead of the series. It was Beatty's fourth home run of the season.
 
North Dakota State upped the lead to 3-0 in the top of the third inning when Tabby Heinz cracked a two-run homer to left field. It was the fifth home run of the season for Heinz, who had two of the four Bison hits.
 
Omaha (6-8, 15-29) made things interesting in the bottom of the sixth. Kelly Pattison knocked in one run with a single, while Vicky Kinney doubled home another to cut the deficit to 3-2.
 
Jacquelyn Sertic (16-21) retired the Mavericks in order in the bottom of the seventh to record the win. Sertic struck out 14, allowed four hits and walked two. Sertic reached double-figure strikeouts for the 12th time this season and 18th in her career.
 
Abbie Clanton (5-14) and Laura Recker pitched for Omaha with Clanton taking the loss. Clanton walked four and struck out two in the first six innings.
 
Omaha (6-8, 15-29) used a six-run third inning to break open the first game. Emily Klosterman hit a two-run double to highlight the inning for the Mavericks, which also took advantage of a pair of bases-loaded walks and an error to score.
 
Vicky Kinney hit a sixth inning grand slam to close out the scoring for Omaha. Lizzie Noble and Kinney both had two hits for the Mavericks, which finished with 11 hits overall.
 
Laura Roecker (10-14) fired a two-hitter and limited NDSU to six hits over 13 innings. Roecker struck out one and walked one.
 
KK Leddy (8-9) took the loss for North Dakota State. Leddy struck out two and walked six. Vanessa Anderson and Dani Renner each had a single for the Bison.
