NASSAU, Bahamas – The North Dakota State men's basketball team fell to Miami (Ohio) in the opening round of the Islands of the Bahamas Showcase on Friday afternoon. The Bison cut a 14-point deficit to five in the second half, before ultimately falling 89-78.

Vinnie Shahid scored a season-high 15 points to lead NDSU.

Tyson Ward (10) also contributed to a balanced scoring attack for the Bison.

Miami shot a blistering 58 percent for the game. The RedHawks got 25 points from Dalonte Brown and 19 from Nike Sibande to improve their overall record to 2-1.

The Bison knocked down 11 three-pointers in the first half, going ahead by as many as seven points and holding a 42-40 lead at the break.

NDSU led 53-52 after a three from Eady with 14:41 to play, but Miami rattled off a 14-1 run to go up 66-54.

When NDSU fought back to within 78-73 with 1:58 remaining, Miami's Jalen Adaway made a three to extend the RedHawks' lead to eight and hold off the Bison.

Sam Griesel both grabbed five rebounds to lead NDSU. Seven different Bison players made a three-pointer in the game, led by Samuelson's three.
