NDSU Men Host South Dakota, Purdue Fort Wayne to Open Summit League Action

The Games:  The North Dakota State men's basketball team (5-8 overall) hosts South Dakota (6-7) on Friday night at 8 p.m. Saturday at noon (postponed from Friday, Dec. 28) and Purdue Fort Wayne (8-7) on Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. inside the Scheels Center on the NDSU campus.
 
Where to Watch: Both games will be broadcast on Midco Sports Network, as well as being available on ESPN+ through the ESPN app. Brian Shawn (play-by-play) and Greg Stemen (analyst) will call the action.
 
Radio: Both games will be broadcast on 107.9 The Fox and Bison1660, as well as being streamed on the 107.9 The Fox app, the Bison1660 app, and on GoBison.com/allaccess. Jeff Culhane and Jeremy Jorgenson will call the action.
 
History vs. South Dakota: Saturday will be the 176th meeting between North Dakota State and South Dakota dating back to 1922-23. The Bison hold a 95-80 lead in the series. NDSU is 10-4 against the Coyotes as Division I opponents.
 
Last Time vs. South Dakota: The Bison cut a 20-point deficit to two in the final minute, before ultimately falling to South Dakota 76-72 on Feb. 3 at the Scheels Center last season.
           South Dakota led 44-24 at halftime, but the Bison outscored the Coyotes 48-32 over the final 20 minutes to make things interesting. NDSU senior A.J. Jacobson rattled in a three-pointer from the top of the key that made it 70-68 with 50 seconds left, but South Dakota got a three from Tyler Peterson at the shot clock buzzer to go back up five with 20 seconds on the clock.
           NDSU shot 53 percent for the game and limited USD to 39-percent shooting, but the Bison were plagued by 17 turnovers and 14 offensive rebounds by the Coyotes.
 
History vs. Purdue Fort Wayne: Sunday will be the 30th meeting between the Bison and Mastodons since 2005-06, with NDSU leading the series 15-14. The Mastodons had won three straight in the series until a Bison victory in the quarterfinals of the Summit League Tournament last year.
 
Last Time vs. Purdue Fort Wayne: The fifth-seeded Bison defeated No. 4 seed Fort Wayne 86-82 in the quarterfinals of the Summit League Tournament on March 4 last season.
           Senior Paul Miller poured in 29 points to lead NDSU. The Bison also received 14 points from sophomore Deng Geu and 13 points from sophomore Tyson Ward. Ward registered five boards and five assists. John Konchar and Bryson Scott both scored 29 points for Fort Wayne.
           The Bison raced out to an early 10-0 lead and led wire-to-wire for the victory. NDSU held a 49-31 advantage at halftime.
 
Free Throw Shooting: The Bison rank sixth in the nation in free throw percentage, shooting 78.3 percent at the line through 13 games.
 
Bench Scoring: NDSU is getting 42 percent of its scoring (30 ppg) from bench players through 13 games.
 
First Double-Double: Junior forward Deng Geu registered his first career double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds on Dec. 19, lifting the Bison to a 90-43 win over Northland College. Geu shot 7-of-9 for the game, and his 13 rebounds were a new career high.
 
Strong Ratio: Junior guard Jared Samuelson leads The Summit League with an 18-to-6 assist-to-turnover ratio this season.
 
Big Leap: Sophomore Rocky Kreuser has already surpassed his scoring output from his freshman season. After scoring 120 points in 32 games last year, Kreuser has 129 points in 13 games this season.
 
Balanced Attack: NDSU's top four scorers are all averaging between 12.5 and 9.9 points per game this season.
 
Shahid Leads: Junior point guard Vinnie Shahid has led the Bison in scoring in four of the past six games, averaging 17.8 points over that stretch. His 29 points vs. Drake on Dec. 1 are the most by a Bison this season.
 
Expanding Role: Four of the past five games for NDSU have been the highest minutes totals of Deng Geu's career, playing 24 vs. Drake, 23 at Iowa State, 25 vs. Eastern Washington, and 25 at Montana. Geu is averaging 22.8 points and 10.0 rebounds per 40 minutes.
 
Put Up A Fight: The Bison put up a strong fight at preseason Big Sky favorite Montana on Dec. 17. NDSU led by six at 27-21 three minutes into the second half, and remained within four at 52-48 with 3:20 left. The Griz own the nation's fourth-longest active home winning streak at 19 games.
 
From All Angles: 11 of the 12 Bison who have played this season have made at least two three-pointers. Vinnie Shahid leads NDSU with 21 treys this season, and Deng Geu tops the team with 46 percent shooting from beyond the arc.
