SAN DIEGO, Calif. –
Bre Beatty's seventh inning two-out double led North Dakota State to a 9-8 win over Cal State Fullerton, while
Jacquelyn Sertic struck out 14 as the Bison edged host San Diego State 2-1 during the first day of the Campbell/Cartier Classic on Friday, Feb. 16, before 299 spectators in SDSU Softball Stadium.

NDSU (4-3) is scheduled to play San Diego State (1-8) at 3 p.m. Central Time and No. 25 Kentucky (3-2) at 6:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, Feb. 17.

Sertic (3-2) was the pitcher of record in both games Friday. She hit a pair of batters in the bottom of the seventh, but struck out three in the inning including the final two in a row. Sertic hit four batters overall, allowed three hits and walked one.

San Diego State took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second on Lesha Hill's run-scoring single to right center.

North Dakota State tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the sixth.
Katie Shoultz led off with a walk and scored from first on
Bre Beatty's double to center.

Shoultz had the game-winner in the top of the seventh, a pop fly to the second baseman, to score
Montana DeCamp with the bases loaded.
Vanessa Anderson, Shoultz, Beatty and DeCamp each had one hit.

The Aztecs used three pitchers with Alex Formby (0-4) picking up the loss. The trio scattered four hits, walked five and struck out five.

The lead changed hands five times and the score was tied on three occasions in the first game against Cal State Fullerton (3-3). Beatty doubled down the left field line with two outs to score
Stephanie Soriano with the game-winner in the bottom of the seventh.

The Titans had taken an 8-7 lead in the top of the sixth on Julia Valenzuela's single. Valenzuela went 3 for 3 with a home run, two runs scored and four RBI to spark Cal State Fullerton's 13-hit attack. Ari Williams also went 3 for 5 with two RBI.

North Dakota State tied the game at 8-8 in the bottom of the sixth on DeCamp's squeeze bunt. The Bison also benefitted from third baseman
Julia Luciano's throw to the plate in the top of the seventh to snuff out a threat.

Beatty went 3 for 3 including a double, tied a career-high with three runs scored and added a RBI. Anderson went 1 for 3 with a career best four RBI, while Luciano went 2 for 4 including NDSU's first home run of the season.
Maddie Hansen,
Zoe Stavrou and Soriano also had two hits.

KK Leddy and Sertic worked on the mound for the Bison with Sertic picking up the win. The pair combined to strike out seven and walk five.

Taylor Dockins, Trish Parks and Kenzie Grimes (0-2) all pitched for the Titans with Grimes taking the loss. They combined to strike out six and walk four.
