NDSU Men Win Third Consecutive Summit League Indoor Title

FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State men's track & field team held off South Dakota State and South Dakota to capture its third consecutive Summit League indoor team championship on Saturday afternoon inside the Shelly Ellig Indoor Track & Field Facility on campus.
 
NDSU finished with 179.5 team points to win the team title over second-place South Dakota State (166) and third-place South Dakota (164.5). It was the seventh indoor crown in 11 years of Summit League membership for the Bison.
 
The NDSU men won just two individual events on Saturday, but captured the team championship behind the strength of multiple placewinners in key events.
 
Senior Matt Neururer won the heptathlon title with a career-best 5,414 points, ranking fifth-best in NDSU history. The Bison men finished 1-2-4-5 in the heptathlon for 27 team points with sophomore Tony Ukkelberg (5,352), junior Ryan Enerson (5,184) and sophomore Ben Klimpke (5,032) all recording personal-best scores that rank among the top 10 in NDSU history.
 
Senior Steffan Stroh claimed the Summit League shot put crown with a mark of 59-09.75 (18.23m). Sophomore Michael Keogan moved up to seventh in NDSU indoor history in the shot put, taking fourth place at 55-10.50 (17.03m). Freshman Trevor Otterdahl threw 55-03.50 (16.85m) to place sixth and rank 10th all-time at NDSU.
 
The Bison men finished second and fourth in the 60m hurdles with Enerson (personal-best 8.21) and freshman Dominic Martinez (8.38).
 
Junior Kelle'Mon Hinton placed third in the triple jump, leaping a personal-best 49-06.50 (15.10m). He now ranks sixth in NDSU indoor history.
 
Junior Jacob Richter placed third in the 400m dash in 49.06, and Landon Jochim took fifth for the Bison in 49.25. Richter capped the meet by anchoring the Bison 4x400m relay to a runner-up finish along with Aron Klos, Byrne Curl and Neururer.
 
In the mile, redshirt freshman Tim Heikkila placed third and junior Camron Roehl took fourth. NDSU had four placewinners in the 800m, led by Curl taking fourth in 1:56.05. Senior Brant Gilbertson was fifth in 1:56.33.
 
Freshman Eric VanErp and senior Jake Leingang came through with critical team points late in the meet. VanErp posted a mark of 45-05.25 (13.85m) for fourth place in the triple jump, and Leingang added a fifth-place finish in the 5000m.
