NDSU, Heinz Double Up CSUN 12-6

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – Tabby Heinz tied the school single-game record with three doubles as North Dakota State used a pair of five-run innings to outlast Cal State Northridge 12-6 in six innings in a rain-shortened game played Wednesday, March 14, at Matador Diamond.
 
NDSU (12-7) is scheduled to play host Loyola Marymount (12-15-1) at 3:30 p.m. CT Thursday, March 15, in the LMU Tournament. The Bison then play Colgate at 6 p.m. CT.
 
North Dakota State finished with a season-high 12 runs on 15 hits including six doubles.
 
Heinz, a senior from Livermore, Calif. (Granada H.S.), went 3-for-3 with a run scored and put her doubles to good use. Her first two-bagger in the second inning knocked in Zoe Stavrou. Her second in the sixth helped to extend the NDSU lead 12-3. She tied the single-game record set by Bre Beatty vs. IUPUI (5-13-17) and Sarah Schmitz vs. Johnson C. Smith (3-12-99).
 
Heinz led a group of five Bison players with 2 or more hits. Bre Beatty went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI, Zoe Stavrou went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, three RBI and three runs scored. Stephanie Soriano and Montana DeCamp both had two hits.
 
North Dakota State led CSUN 7-0 after four innings, but the Matadors (10-19) scored six runs over the final two innings. The Bison exploded for five runs in both the fourth and six innings.
 
Mackenzie Babbitt went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while Megan Stevens knocked in two runs with a triple for CSUN
 
Sertic (9-4) recorded the win for NDSU. She struck out nine, allowed eight hits and walked two.
 
Jillian James (5-8), Kenedee Jamerson, Megan Stevens and Cheyenne Noli pitched for the Matadors with James picking up the loss. The foursome combined to strike out six and walk four.
