FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The North Dakota State University baseball team trounced the Fort Wayne Mastodons, 15-0, in seven innings on Saturday, March 24, in the second game of a three-game Summit League series at Mastodon Field.
North Dakota State (10-11, 3-2 Summit League) is scheduled to play Fort Wayne (4-14, 0-5 Summit League) in the final game of the series Sunday, March 25, at 1 p.m. ET.
Junior
Sean Noel went 2-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and five RBI to lead the Bison at the plate. Four other NDSU players tallied at least two hits in the game.
North Dakota State outhit Fort Wayne, 15-10, in the contest.
Left-handed starter
Blake Stockert (2-1) earned the shutout victory on the mound for NDSU after giving up no earned runs on seven hits with one strikeout in six innings.
The Bison scored a combined six runs in the first three innings to jump out to a 6-0 lead before busting the game open with five runs in the sixth inning.
In the sixth, Noel provided the big hit for NDSU with a one-out, bases-clearing double to left field.
Carter Thompson and
Matt Elsenpeter added RBI singles in the frame.
Jack Lang and Jacob Dickson each had two hits, leading Fort Wayne in the batter's box.
Mastodon starter Damian Helm (2-4) suffered the loss after allowing six earned runs on eight hits with one walk in 2 1/3 innings.
