FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The North Dakota State University baseball team completed a three-game series sweep of the Fort Wayne Mastodons with a 10-3 win on Sunday, March 25, at Mastodon Field.
North Dakota State (11-11, 4-2 Summit League) is scheduled to travel to Tulsa, Okla., for a Summit League series at Oral Roberts March 30-31.
Junior outfielder
Alec Abercrombie went 3-of-4 with two runs scored and a RBI, leading the Bison at the plate.
Matt Elsenpeter added a pair of hits, including a double, and drove in two runs, while
Mason Pierzchalski and
Tucker Rohde also tallied two hits, respectively.
Left-handed reliever
Chris Choles (2-0) earned the victory on the mound for NDSU after allowing no earned runs on two hits with one strikeout and no walks in 1 2/3 innings. Senior
Kevin Folman secured his team-high fourth save of the season after getting the final out of the eighth inning and pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
North Dakota State jumped out to a 3-0 lead after plating two runs in the first inning and one run in the second frame, but Fort Wayne (4-15, 0-6 Summit League) responded to tie the contest, 3-3, with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second and a run in the bottom of the sixth.
NDSU broke the stalemate and went in front, 4-3, in the top of the eighth after Elsenpeter scored
Sean Noel on a sacrifice fly. The Bison caught fire at the plate in the top of the ninth inning, scoring six runs on six hits to balloon their lead to 10-3.
Brock Logan, Shannon Baker and Travis Upp each compiled two hits, pacing Fort Wayne in the batter's box.
Mastodon reliever Trevor Armstrong (0-1) took the loss after surrendering one earned run on no hits with two walks and no strikeouts in two innings.
Fort Wayne committed six errors in the game.
