TUCSON, Ariz. -- The University of Arizona Wildcats rolled to a 13-3 win over the North Dakota State University baseball team in the opening game of a three-game series Friday, March 9, at Hi Corbett Field.
North Dakota State (6-7) and Arizona (7-6) are scheduled to play game two of the series at 2 p.m. MST Saturday, March 10.
Redshirt junior
Jayse McLean drove in two runs with a double, leading the Bison at the plate.
Right-hander
Riley Johnson (2-2) suffered the loss on the mound for NDSU after giving up six earned runs on nine hits with three strikeouts and two walks in five innings pitched.
NDSU took an early 2-0 lead over the Wildcats in the top of the first inning after McLean plated
Drew Fearing and
Mason Pierzchalski with a two-run double to left center.
The lead was short-lived, however, as Arizona scored six runs in the bottom of the second inning to take control of the game.
Cameron Cannon led the Wildcats in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with a triple, three RBI and a run scored.
Arizona right-handed starter Cody Deason (2-0) earned the victory after allowing one earned run on two hits with nine strikeouts and one walk in seven innings of work.
The Wildcats outhit the Bison in the game, 17-3.
