PDF Box Score

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The North Dakota State women's soccer team scored early and often Sunday, running away with a 5-1 victory over Purdue Fort Wayne.

The Bison improved to 5-4 overall and 2-0 in Summit League play.

NDSU strung together a barrage of offensive attacks early in the match, taking the lead in just the 9th minute when senior Hanna Norman headed in a free kick from senior Mallory Fenske. The Bison went up 2-0 in the 20th minute when junior Mariah Haberle buried a shot in the back of the net, with an assist to Sydney Johnson.

Purdue Fort Wayne got one back in the 32nd minute, but the Bison responded with another goal in the 39th minute when Daniella Jasper slipped a pass to Holly Enderle, who beat the Mastodon keeper 1-on-1.

NDSU added a pair of goals in the second half. Haberle notched her second of the game with a header on a Fenske free kick, and sophomore Ellen Schneider scored her first collegiate goal in the 75th minute to set the final margin at 5-1.

"To get six points in the opening weekend is extremely positive," said NDSU head coach Mike Regan. "For a few games now, we've been creating a lot of opportunities without capitalizing, but I was very pleased with our finishing today. We scored goals from different places with a variety of players, which is promising."

Regan also highlighted the effort of redshirt freshman Ellen Schneider in scoring her first collegiate goal.

"Ellie Schneider came on for us late after being out the better part of two years with ACL injuries," Regan said. "She is so mentally tough – a great lead-by-example player for us. For her to come on and score a fantastic goal with a great finish, we're very pleased for her."

This was NDSU's sixth straight win over the Mastodons, improving to a 17-1 aggregate in the last five years of the series.

NDSU returns home to host Summit League preseason favorite Denver on Thursday night.
