STILLWATER, Okla. – North Dakota State junior cross country runner
Kelby Anderson recorded her second straight top-10 finish at the NCAA Midwest Regional meet on Friday morning, potentially earning a trip to the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
Â
Anderson (Bismarck, N.D.) finished seventh out of more than 230 runners, clocking a six-kilometer time of 20:43.3 for the eighth-fastest 6k in NDSU history.
Â
Anderson missed out on an automatic qualifying spot for next weekend's NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind., but the possibility remains that she could earn an at-large selection announced on Saturday.
Â
Her performance was the third-best ever by a Bison, trailing only the 2015 regional title by All-American Erin Teschuk and the 2014 runner-up finish by Teschuk. Anderson finished 9th at the Midwest Regional a year ago as a sophomore.

As a team, the Bison women took 11th place for the second-best regional finish in school history. Behind Anderson, freshman
Kaleesa Houston (22:07.5) and junior
Brynnan Covington (22:08.5) were 63rd and 64th, respectively. NDSU senior
Melina Kuerschner finished 79th in 22:17.8, and junior
Jen Dufner completed the team scoring in 109th with a time of 22:43.2.
Â
Covington and Kuerschner both posted the best regional-meet finishes of their careers, with Covington improving 55 places over last season.
Â
Illinois won the team title, with Iowa State's Cailie Logue claiming the individual crown for the second straight year.
