Slow Start Troubles Bison in Loss to Northeastern

BOSTON - Northeastern raced out to a 12-0 lead in the first 3:16 of the game Saturday, as the Huskies defeated the North Dakota State women's basketball team 72-61 at the Cabot Center.
The Bison dropped to 0-7 with the loss, while the Huskies improved to 1-6 on the year. NDSU will have a quick turnaround, as the Bison travel to New Hampshire on Sunday. Tipoff is set for 11 a.m. (central) in Durham, N.H.
Junior Emily Dietz notched her third double-double of the season with 19 points and 13 rebounds, tying a career-high for rebounds. Rylee Nudell (14) and Michelle Gaislerova (10) joined Dietz in double figures, as Nudell surpassed 700 points for her career. Stella Clark had a game-high 24 points for the Huskies.
Nudell added a season-high seven rebounds, while Gaislerova had five boards. Sofija Zivaljevic had four assists, while Ryan Cobbins, Nicole Scales and Gaislerova each had two. Dietz finished with a career-high three steals, while Cirkeline Rimdal tied a career-high with two.
The Bison were 22-of-55 (40%) from the floor and 8-of-29 (27.6%) from 3-point range. Northeastern was 21-of-52 (40.4%) from the field and 9-of-23 (39.1%) from downtown. The Huskies were 21-of-31 (67.7%) at the free throw line, while NDSU was 9-of-12. The Bison had advantages in the paint (26-20) and bench points (28-13), while the Huskies had a 21-12 advantage in points off turnovers.
After trailing 12-0 to start the game, the Bison rattled off a 13-2 run over a 2:37 span to cut the lead to 14-13 with 3:42 left in the first quarter. The Huskies closed the quarter on a 10-4 run to take a 24-17 lead after the first quarter. Northeastern held a 31-21 lead with 5:59 left in the first half before NDSU closed the half on a 12-3 run, cutting the lead to 34-33 at the break. The Huskies used a 9-2 run over the final 2:58 of the third quarter to push the lead to 12. NDSU cut the lead to nine three times in the fourth quarter, but couldn't get any closer.
