7/23/2019 3:51:00 PM

ATLANTA, Ga. - The North Dakota State women's basketball team ranked second with a 3.756 team GPA on the WBCA Academic Top-25 Division I Team Honor Roll for the 2018-19 season, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced Tuesday, July 23.

The WBCA Academic Top 25 recognizes NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA and two-year GPAs inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. The 2018-19 season is the 24th in which the WBCA has compiled the honor rolls.

Ranking second in the nation, it was the sixth time since 2004-05 that the Bison have ranked in the top 20 in the nation in GPA. It also marks the highest the team has ranked, joining the 2004-05 team in the top five as they ranked fourth. Overall, the Bison had the seventh best GPA in the nation among the five divisions of basketball (NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, Junior College). Last year, the Bison tied for 18th in the nation. Three Summit League schools ranked in the top five in the nation, with Western Illinois taking the top spot and South Dakota ranking fifth. The Indiana Institute of Technology (NAIA) had the top overall GPA at 3.817.

"The WBCA is pleased to recognize those women's basketball programs that have committed themselves to excellence on the court and in the classroom," said WBCA Executive Director Danielle Donehew.  "The 117 teams we honor this year strive to achieve all-around success and we commend their efforts. Congratulations!"
