WEST DES MOINES, Iowa - A pair of goals in the final 11 minutes by the Drake Bulldogs were enough to edge the North Dakota State soccer team 2-1 in a non-conference match at Tiger Field.
NDSU dropped to 4-2-1 on the year, while Drake improved to 2-4-1 overall. The Bison will remain in Iowa for a second match this weekend, facing Northern Iowa (3-3) on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at the Cedar Valley Soccer Complex in Waterloo.
The Bison scored first, as
Ellie Schneider scored on a penalty kick in the 34th minute. It was the first goal of the season for Schneider and the second of her career. Both Drake goals came off corner kicks, with Megan Valenzuela scoring her first goal of the season in the 80th minute to tie the match before Rebecka Musungu scored her first goal of the season for the victory.
Elyse Huber and
Mariah Haberle led the Bison with three shots apiece, while
Lavin Douglass added a pair. Huber also had two shots on goal. Polgar notched five saves in the net, as she dropped to 4-2-2 on the season.Â
Drake had a 16-12 advantage in shots and an 11-2 advantage in corner kicks.
