NDSU Blanks SLU 9-0, Falls 5-0 at No. 8 Florida

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – North Dakota State scored seven runs in the first inning in the 9-0 win over Southeastern Louisiana in game one and lost 5-0 to host and the No. 8/11-ranked Gators during the first day of the Florida Bubly Invitational at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium on Friday, Feb. 14.
 
NDSU (2-4) is scheduled to play Florida A&M (0-7) at 8 a.m. CT and host Florida (6-1) at 10:30 a.m. CT as the tournament continues on Saturday, Feb. 15.
 
North Dakota State sent 11 batters to the plate in the bottom of the first inning against Southeastern Louisiana to jump out to an early lead. Montana DeCamp knocked in the first run on a fielder's choice, Sam Koehn doubled home a pair, Stephanie Soriano had a RBI single and three runs scored on three SLU errors.
 
The Bison finished with nine hits overall. Madyson Camacho went 2 for 2 with two stolen bases and a run scored, Koehn went 2 for 3 with a double and three RBI, and Soriano finished 2 for 3 with a RBI. Cara Beatty and Dez Cardenas each scored two runs with Beatty adding a triple. NDSU recorded seven stolen bases.
 
On the mound, Bison sophomore Paige Vargas (2-1) tossed her third career one-hitter and ninth shutout. She allowed a base hit to the first batter faced. Vargas struck out three and walked one. Southeast Louisiana (6-2) used three pitchers with Karlee Kraft (1-1) taking the loss.
 
Charla Echols went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBI as Florida defeated North Dakota State in the second game. With the Gators leading 2-0 in the bottom of the fifth, Echols singled through the right side to drive in a pair. Florida outhit the Bison 10-5 as Kendyl Lindaman and Cheyenne Lindsey joined Echols with a double and single.
 
Lauren Reimers led NDSU with a double and single, while Sam Koehn added a double.
 
Rylee Trlicek (3-0) went the first 6.1 innings to record the win for Florida. Trlicek allowed four hits, struck out two and issued no walks. Lainey Lyle (0-2) took the loss. Lyle struck out four and walked three over six innings.
