AUSTIN, Texas – North Dakota State lost 6-2 to Weber State and 10-0 in five innings to No. 4-ranked Texas at the Texas Invitational at McCombs Field on Friday, Feb. 21.
NDSU (4-7) is scheduled to play Weber State (4-8) at 9 a.m. and Duke (9-2) at 2 p.m. at the Texas Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 22.
Weber State scored six unanswered runs and broke open a close game a three-run sixth inning in the opener. Ashlyn Visser went 2 for 4 with two RBI and Chloe Camarero had three RBI for the Wildcats which finished with 14 hits.
North Dakota State took advantage of first inning wildness and pushed across a run with
Lauren Reimers bases-loaded walk. Weber State took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third on Camerero's sacrifice and Visser RBI single. Camarero added a two-run single to extend the lead to 6-1.
Paige Vargas (3-3) took the loss and had two strikeouts. Kate Donaldson (1-3) picked up the win in relief of starter Mariah Ramirez. Donaldson scattered five hits, allowed an unearned run and struck out four.
The undefeated Longhorns (13-0) exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the fourth to pull away from NDSU. Courtney Day, Lauren Burke and Kaitlyn Washington combined for six of the nine hits for Texas. Washington had a two-run triple in the big fourth inning.
Mirand Elish (6-0) limited the Bison to singles from
Dez Cardenas and
Montana DeCamp. Elish struck out eight and had no walks.
Lainey Lyle (0-3) and
Mac Schulz pitched for NDSU with Lyle taking the loss.
