NDSU Drops Pair of One-Run Decisions at Bulldog Classic

FRESNO, Calif. – North Dakota State lost 1-0 to BYU and No. 25-ranked and host Fresno State rallied for a 6-5 win over the Bison at the Bulldog Classic at Margie Wright Diamond on Friday, March 6.
 
NDSU (7-13) is scheduled to play UC Davis (14-9) at 1:30 p.m. Central Time and Fresno State at 7 p.m. CT on Saturday, March 7.
 
The teams combined for 18 hits and scored 10 runs over the first two innings in the second game. Fresno State (19-4) scored the game-winner on a solo home run from Miranda Rohleder in the bottom of the sixth inning.
 
North Dakota State took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first on Cara Beatty's two-run home run to left field on a 3-2 pitch with two outs.
 
Fresno State responded with four runs in the bottom of the first to take a 4-2 lead. The Bulldogs received a run-scoring single from Schuylar Broussard, took advantage of an error, while Rohleder tripled in another run and Alesia Denby added a RBI single.
 
NDSU bounced back with three runs with two outs in the top of the second to regain the lead at 5-4. Montana DeCamp singled in a run, the Bison cashed in an error and Madyson Camacho delivered run-scoring single. Camacho went 3 for 3, while Beatty and DeCamp both had two hits.
 
The Bulldogs tied the game at 5-all in the bottom of the second inning on a Kaitlyn Jennings triple.
 
Paige Vargas (4-7) took the loss for North Dakota State. Danielle East (2-1) picked up the win in relief, while Hailey Dolcini earned her first save of the season.
 
Martha Epensa's two-out single scored Ry Jensen McFarland in the top of the first in BYU's win over North Dakota State in the opener. This contest was a pitcher's duel between freshman Lainey Lyle of NDSU and the Cougars' Autumn Moffat, who combined to allow seven hits in the game.
 
Epensa led BYU (14-8) with two hits, while Beatty led the Bison with two and finish the day 4 for 6.
