Bison Volleyball Announces Addition of Transfer Briana Sharkey

FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State University head volleyball coach Jennifer Lopez announced the addition of 5-foot-10 redshirt sophomore setter Briana Sharkey, a transfer from Michigan Tech, who will be joining the volleyball program in the fall of 2020. Sharkey will have three years of eligibility remaining.
Sharkey joins 6-foot outside hitter Ali Hinze (Maple Grove, Minn. / Osseo H.S.), 6-1 outside hitter Alex Lyle (Maplewood, Minn. / Tartan H.S.) and 5-6 libero Taylor Quan (Brooklyn Park, Minn.).

2019 SEASON (Freshman / Michigan Tech): Played in 10 matches and 22 sets for Michigan Tech, hitting .286 (16-4-42) and averaging 7.95 assists, 2.32 digs and 1.1 points per set … Finished with 175 assists, 51 digs, 23.5 points, 16 kills 7 blocks and 4 service aces … Stepped in late in the season, making three starts in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play … Season best 49 assists and 10 digs in 3-1 win over Grand Valley State (11-20-19) in the GLIAC quarterfinals … Had 35 assists and season-high 18 digs in win at Lake Superior State (11-15-19) … Also had season-high six kills in 11 attacks (.545) against the Lakers … Finished with season-best five blocks (all block assists) and two service aces with 46 assists and 14 digs in 3-2 loss at Saginaw Valley State (11-16-19).
2018 SEASON (Redshirt / Michigan Tech): Redshirt in the Michigan Tech program.
HIGH SCHOOL: Attended Madison Edgewood High School... Named 2017 First Team All-Conference, All-Area Honorable Mention, team MVP and served as the team captain... First Team All-Conference in 2015 and an All-Conference Honorable Mention in 2014... Was a WVCA Academic Award winner in 2015 and 2014 and a four-year varsity letter winner for volleyball and a two-year letter winner in track ... Selected to the USA Select National A2 Training Program in 2015... A member of the Badger Region High Performance Volleyball Training Team in 2014.
North Dakota State advanced to the Summit League tournament for the 12th time in program history in 2019. The Bison finished with a 13-16 record overall, 8-8 in the league standings for fifth place during the regular season.
