Hanger Tops 1,000 Career Digs as NDSU Volleyball Falls to Denver

FARGO, N.D. – Kaylee Hanger reached the 1,000 career digs plateau as the North Dakota State volleyball team fell short against Denver, 3-0, on Thursday night at Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.
With the loss, NDSU drops to 8-10 (2-4 Summit), while Denver improves to 13-2 (4-1 Summit) on the season.
Hanger led the way for the Bison reaching double digits in digs for the 12th time this season with a team-high 14. She pushed her career total up to 1,003 and became the 26th player in program history to reach the mark. Syra Tanchin paced the Bison on the offensive side with a match-best eight kills, while Kelley Johnson handed out a team-high 19 assists.
The Bison took advantage of playing on their home court and put together three straight points to grab a 9-7 edge after a kill from Kirstin Tidd. The Pioneers then came back and pushed their lead up to 24-17 late in the frame. The Bison responded with a 4-0 run to pull back within three, 24-21, but couldn't pull off the comeback and dropped the opening set, 25-21. Allison Scheiwiller and Ali Hinze led all players with four kills each in the frame.
The Bison sprinted out to a 12-5 lead in the second set after Hanger was able to sneak an ace in down the line. Denver then stormed back to lock the contest, 14-14, by the midway point. The Pioneers kept the pressure on with six straight points to build a 20-14 edge. Denver closed out the stanza, 25-20.
The Pioneers carried momentum over into the third frame creating a 13-8 advantage after a 3-0 run. Denver didn't look back from there stretching its lead up to 20-11. The Pioneers went on to win the set, 25-16, and the match, 3-0.
NDSU will continue its homestand on Saturday hosting Omaha (8-7, 5-0 Summit) at Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse. First serve is set for 11:00 a.m.
