Bison Volleyball Drops 3-1 Decision Against Omaha

FARGO, N.D.   –  Three Bison hit double digits in kills as North Dakota State dropped a 3-1 decision to Omaha on Saturday afternoon at Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.

With the loss, NDSU falls to 8-11 (2-5 Summit), while Omaha improves to 9-7 (6-0 Summit) on the season.

Ali Hinze tallied her team-high ninth double-double of the season with 18 kills and 13 digs. Syra Tanchin also added in 16 kills with a .231 hitting percentage. Michelle Glover posted 10 kills with a team-best four blocks, while Kelley Johnson passed out a team-high 33 assists.  

NDSU took advantage of a fast start running out to a 14-6 advantage after Ava Schmoll connected on a service ace. The Bison kept the momentum rolling extending their lead up to 16-7 after Allison Scheiwiller and Hinze delivered a block. NDSU closed out the frame, 25-15. Tanchin led all players in the set with seven kills.

The Mavericks pushed back in the second stanza doubling up the Bison, 10-5, following a service ace. The Bison battled back cutting the deficit all the way down to two, 22-20, after back-to-back kills from Hinze. However, Omaha finished out the frame, 25-21, and locked the match, 1-1.

The Mavericks continued to control the pace in the third set opening up a 14-7 advantage. After each team notched a point, Omaha assembled a 6-1 run extend its lead up to 21-9 to force an NDSU timeout. The Mavericks closed out the set, 25-11.

NDSU attempted to rally in the fourth frame that saw a match-high four tie scores and two lead changes. The Bison snatched a 14-12 edge in the frame following a kill from Tanchin. The Mavericks then responded with six straight points to regain the lead, 18-16. Omaha held off NDSU the rest of the way to win the frame, 25-20, and the match, 3-1.

NDSU will be back in action at South Dakota State (10-6, 2-3 Summit) on Tuesday night. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
