Bison Volleyball Falls at South Dakota State, 3-1

BROOKINGS, S.D.   –  The North Dakota State volleyball team came up short at South Dakota State, 3-1, on Tuesday night.

With the loss, NDSU drops to 8-12 (2-6 Summit), while SDSU improves to 12-6 (4-3 Summit) on the season.

Ali Hinze registered her second straight and 10th double-double of the season with a match-high 16 digs to go along with 13 kills. Syra Tanchin delivered a match-best 18 kills with .308 hitting percentage, while Raegen Reilly rounded out the top performers with a team-best 18 assists.

The Jackrabbits opened the contest running out to a 7-3 advantage. NDSU battled back with four straight points to lock the set, 7-7, following an attack error. SDSU then responded to slowly push its lead back up to seven, 20-13, to force an NDSU timeout. The Jackrabbits won the opening set, 25-18.

The Bison answered back in the second stanza assembling a 5-0 run to steal a 9-7 edge following a kill from Tanchin. After SDSU came back to lock the set, 15-15, NDSU put together a momentum swinging 8-1 run to regain the lead, 23-16. The Bison closed out the frame, 25-18.

The Jackrabbits began the third set slowly building a 17-10 advantage to force a Bison timeout. NDSU responded to pull back within two, 22-20, after a kill from Tanchin. However, SDSU held off the late surge and won the frame, 25-22.

Both teams traded points in the fourth set that featured a match-high nine tie scores and six lead changes. The Bison snatched a late lead after Alexis Boling came up with a block at the net to make the score 19-18. The Jackrabbits then rattled off five straight points to steal the lead, 23-19. SDSU went on to close out the set, 25-21, and the match, 3-1.

NDSU returns to action hosting North Dakota (1-19, 0-8 Summit) on Saturday at Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
