Illinois State's Day No-Hits Bison in Championship Game of MTSU Invitational

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Illinois State's Morgan Day pitched a no-hitter with 16 strikeouts to lead the Redbirds to a 2-0 victory over North Dakota State in the championship game of the Middle Tennessee State Invitational softball tournament Sunday, March 14.

Day allowed only two base runners in her first collegiate no-hitter. After NDSU's Ciara Jensen led off the game with a walk, Day retired 19 straight batters until a fielding error with one out in the seventh.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the sixth despite four NDSU errors. Illinois State (12-4) went ahead on a solo home run by Jayden Standish before Rebecca Moffett singled and scored on Andrea Coursey's sacrifice fly.

Kara O'Byrne went all six innings in the circle for NDSU allowing seven hits with two strikeouts and no walks.

North Dakota State (4-11) is scheduled to play Missouri in a single game Wednesday, March 17, before opening the Kansas Jayhawk Invitational on Friday, March 19, where the Bison will play five games against South Dakota, Kansas and Tulsa over the weekend.
