MACOMB, Ill. – The North Dakota State women's cross country team took third place at the Summit League Cross Country Championships held Friday, Mar. 5, at Spring Lake Park in Macomb.
With the NCAA Cross Country Championships postponed to the spring season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Bison did not compete in the fall. Coupled with the challenges of winter weather in the Northern Plains, the Summit League Championships became the only meet on the adjusted cross country schedule.
South Dakota State won the team title with 22 points, and North Dakota was second with 44. The Bison finished with 54 points to take third.
Senior Jen Dufner was the top-finishing Bison, taking seventh place in a time of 22:17.39 for the six-kilometer course. Sophomore Kaleesa Houston (8th in 22:21.78) and senior Melina Kuerschner (10th in 22:34.69) also finished in the top 10 for NDSU.
Bison freshman Allie Wahlund placed 14th in 22:56.84, and sophomore Caitlin Covington completed NDSU's team scoring in 23:02.25 for 15th place. It was the conference meet debut for both.
