NDSU junior
Alex Talley took sixth place in the hammer throw, and sophomore
Benji Phillips placed eighth in the javelin as both earned first-team All-America honors. They were the sixth and seventh Division I outdoor first-team All-America finishes by the Bison men.
Â
Talley placed sixth in the hammer throw, posting a mark of 232-11 (70.99m) for the second-best throw of his career. Along with his third-place NCAA Indoor finish in the shot put and sixth place in the weight throw, Talley earned three first-team All-America honors in 2021.

Phillips advanced ninth to the javelin final, but climbed to eighth with a throw of 234-3 (71.40m) to secure first-team All-America status. He joined two-time, first-team All-American Matti Mortimore (2015, 2017) as Bison men to finish top-eight in the javelin at the Division I national meet.
Â
Kristoffer Thomsen placed 20th in the shot put, earning honorable mention All-America status.
Â
The Bison women will have five entries competing in the throwing events Thursday at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
