EUGENE, Ore. – In a single day at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, the North Dakota State women's track & field team added five All-America honors to the school's history books.

With five entries competing in the throwing events on Thursday, the Bison women claimed three first-team All-America finishes and a pair of second-team All-America honors.

Sophomore Akealy Moton led the way, launching a school record and personal-best 59-5 (18.11m) on her final attempt in the shot put to place third. It was the second-highest Division I NCAA finish ever by a Bison woman, trailing only Laura Hermanson's second place in the 800 meters at the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Championships.

Bison junior Kari Wolfe took fifth in the javelin, throwing a personal-best of 180-6 (55.02m) on her second attempt. Wolfe's fifth-place finish briefly tied for the highest NCAA finish by an NDSU woman in a throwing event – until Moton took third in the shot put minutes later.

Sixth-year NDSU senior Maddy Nilles finished sixth in the hammer throw, posting a toss of 225-1 (68.61m) for the second-best mark of her career. She earned the third All-America honor of her Bison career, with two first-team honors in the hammer throw.

Sixth-year senior Shelby Gunnells finished 11th in the shot put, recording a mark of 55-9 (16.99m) and missing the finals by less than eight inches. Gunnells was also named the NCAA Elite 90 Award recipient, as the student-athlete competing at the national championship with the highest cumulative grade point average.

Moton added a 13th-place finish in the javelin, which she competed in concurrently with the shot put. After taking three quick preliminary attempts in the shot, Moton jumped into the javelin competition and posted a throw of 175-1 (53.37m) to secure her second-team All-America honors in that event.

The top eight finishers in all events earn first team All-America honors, and places 9 through 16 are named second team All-Americans.

With 13 team points scored by Moton, Wolfe and Nilles, the NDSU women are tied for third in the team standings.
