Wahlund Paces Bison Women in Cross Country Opener

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The North Dakota State women's cross country team was led by Minot, N.D., native Allie Wahlund in Saturday morning's 2021 season opener at the University of North Dakota.
Wahlund finished second at the UND Ron Pynn Classic, clocking 17:32.7 for the five-kilometer course. Her time ranks 11th-fastest in NDSU history for the cross country 5k.
Wahlund is entering her second year at NDSU, but remains a freshman in cross country eligibility after the waiver granted by the NCAA due to COVID-19 for the 2020 season.
Bison senior Kelby Anderson placed fourth overall in 17:40.7, and freshman Grace Link (Plymouth, Minn. / Wayzata HS) was fifth in 17:57.8 for her collegiate debut.
Erin Valgardson (18:32.9) finished ninth for NDSU, and Abigail Hoffarth (18:47.8) completed the team scoring for the Bison in 10th place.
NDSU ran a partial squad in the meet and finished second in the team race behind North Dakota with 30 points.
The Bison women will compete next at the SDSU Classic in Brookings, S.D., on Friday, Sept. 10.
