NDSU Comeback Falls Short Against Omaha, 68-54

FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State women's basketball team couldn't pull off the comeback against Omaha on Saturday afternoon at Scheels Center falling 68-54.

The Mavericks (6-9, 2-3 Summit) opened the contest building up a 21-point advantage, 31-10, by the 6:37 mark of the second quarter. Omaha led at the intermission, 39-23. The Bison (6-9, 2-3 Summit) surged back in the third frame outscoring the Mavericks, 20-13, to pull back within nine, 52-43, following a jumper from Heaven Hamling.

Omaha pushed back in the fourth quarter stretching its edge back up to 12, 60-48, with 5:15 to play. Ryan Cobbins then answered for the Bison knocking down a three pointer to make the score 60-51 with 3:33 remaining. However, the Mavericks responded with six straight points to expand their lead back into double digits, 66-51. Omaha held off NDSU the rest of the way to steal the 68-54 win.

Hamling paced the Bison reaching double figures in scoring for the 12th time this season with a team-high 19 points. The Grand Rapids, Minn., native knocked down a season-high five triples on 12 attempts over 40 minutes of action. Cobbins also hit double digits in scoring with 12 points and matched a season-best four three pointers on 10 attempts.

As a team, the Bison matched a season-high 10 triples on 27 attempts. NDSU also shot 34.7 percent (17-49) from the field and 71.4 percent (10-14) from the free throw line.  

NDSU travels to St. Thomas (5-8, 2-1 Summit) on Thursday, Jan. 13. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
