DENVER – The North Dakota State volleyball team rolled past Denver, 3-0, on Thursday night at Hamilton Gymnasium.

Ali Hinze powered the Bison (13-6, 6-1 Summit) to their first win over the Pioneers (11-8, 5-3 Summit) in Denver since 2013 with a match-high 17 kills and .429 hitting percentage. She also added seven digs, three blocks and one assist to her stat line. Syra Tanchin poured in 16 kills, while Kelley Johnson handed out a team-best 35 assists. Logan O'Brien added in a match-high 18 digs on the defensive side.

The Bison started fast in the opening set running out to an 8-3 advantage following back-to-back service aces from Taylor Quan. NDSU then doubled up Denver, 16-8, by the midway point after a kill from Tanchin. The Bison went on to close out the frame, 25-11.

Both teams worked through a match-high 14 tie scores and three lead changes in the second set. Denver assembled a late 4-0 run to steal a 23-20 edge and force an NDSU timeout. The Bison responded with a 3-1 run of their own to lock the contest, 24-24, after a kill from Michelle Glover. NDSU then put the set out of reach with two straight points following a service error and kill from Tanchin to secure the frame, 27-25.

Denver began the third set building a 16-13 edge to force an NDSU timeout. The Bison then assembled a 6-2 run to regain the lead, 19-18, after Tanchin notched a block. The Pioneers battled their way back to lock the set, 24-24. NDSU closed out the set with two straight points capped off with a block from Tanchin and Glover to win the frame, 26-24, and the match, 3-0.

NDSU will continue its road swing at Omaha on Saturday. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
