Hinze and Johnson Guide NDSU Volleyball Past St. Thomas, 3-0

FARGO, N.D. – Ali Hinze and Kelley Johnson each registered a double-double to help lift NDSU volleyball past St. Thomas, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon at Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.
Kelley Johnson posted her team-best 14th double-double of the season with a match-high 40 assists and 11 digs. Ali Hinze notched her 10th double-double of the season with a match-best 16 kills and 11 digs. Logan O'Brien added in 10 digs of her own, while Syra Tanchin contributed 12 kills.
The Bison (15-7, 8-2 Summit) got off to quick start with six straight points after back-to-back kills from Michelle Glover to make the score 10-4 in the first set. Both teams then exchanged points until NDSU closed the frame on a 5-0 run to win the set, 25-17. Hinze and Tanchin paced the Bison with five kills each in the stanza.
NDSU was able to double up St. Thomas (3-20, 1-10 Summit) early in the second set, 8-4, after Hinze delivered a kill. The Bison continued to surge stretching their lead into double digits, 21-10, following four straight points with Alexis Boling and Hinze each notching two kills. NDSU went on to close out the set, 25-16.
The Bison assembled six straight points capped off by a kill Hinze to open up an 8-3 edge in the third set. St. Thomas battled its way back chipping the deficit down to two, 22-20. NDSU responded to close the set out on a 3-1 run to seal the frame, 25-21, and the match, 3-0.
NDSU will be back in action at Kansas City on Thursday night. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
