KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The North Dakota State volleyball team held off Kansas City on the road, 3-2, to pick up its third straight win on Thursday night at Swinney Center.
Alexis Boling led the way for NDSU (16-7, 9-2 Summit) connecting on a career-high 16 kills, while
Michelle Glover tallied 14 kills and tied a season-high six total blocks.
Ali Hinze registered a double-double with 14 kills and 14 digs.
Syra Tanchin also added a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs.
Kelley Johnson distributed a match-best 48 kills with 12 digs and
Logan O'Brien notched a team-high 25 digs.
The Bison began the contest opening up a 13-6 edge after Tanchin connected on a kill. NDSU then stretched its lead to 21-13 after Hinze delivered a kill. The Bison held off the Roos (7-17, 4-7 Summit) the rest of way to take the set, 25-19. NDSU notched a .344 hitting percentage in the frame and limited Kansas City to a .121 hitting percentage.
The Roos pushed back in the second frame that saw five lead changes and four tie scores. After both teams locked the set, 14-14, the Bison constructed a 3-0 run to steal a 17-14 lead after a kill from Glover. The Roos cut the deficit back down to one, 21-20, following a kill from Kimora Whetstone. NDSU responded to finish the set on a 4-1 run to win the stanza, 25-21.
Kansas City retaliated in the third frame sprinting out to a 17-12 lead. NDSU answered with three straight points coming out of a timeout to cut the deficit to two, 17-15, after an attack error. However, the Bison couldn't cut the lead any further and went on to drop the set, 25-19.
Both teams exchanged points in the fourth frame until NDSU snatched a 17-15 edge following an ace from O'Brien. The Roos then rattled off four straight points to regain the lead, 19-17. Kansas City went on to close out the set, 25-23.
The Roos began the fifth frame opening up a two-point edge, 10-8, following a kill from Whetstone. The Bison answered back to lock the frame, 11-11, after Hinze connected on a kill. NDSU then closed the set on a momentum-shifting 4-1 run to win the frame, 15-12, and the match, 3-2.
The Bison will be back in action at Oral Roberts on Saturday. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m.
