ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The North Dakota State men's basketball team dropped its first game at the Lobo Classic on Friday night, falling 80-70 to Northern Colorado.
NDSU junior Grant Nelson scored a career-high 31 points and also led the Bison with seven rebounds.
Northern Colorado led 40-27 at halftime. The Bison battled back to pull within three points on two different occasions, including at 60-57 with 5:40 remaining. The Bears responded with five straight points and maintained a lead of at least five the rest of the way.
NDSU (1-5) posted a 36-32 rebounding advantage, but allowed 48-percent shooting for Northern Colorado.
UNC's Dalton Knecht finished with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Bison sophomore Andrew Morgan had 14 points and six boards.
The Bison will play host New Mexico on Saturday at 6 p.m. CT / 5 p.m. MT.
