Trevor Otterdahl will represent the Bison men's track & field team at the NCAA Indoor Championships this Friday in Birmingham, Ala.

Otterdahl, a Rosemount, Minn., native, will compete in the weight throw at 4 p.m. CT on Friday, making his second consecutive appearance at the national meet in the event. The meet will be broadcast live on ESPN3.

The NCAA Indoor Championships are limited to the top 16 performers in the country in each individual event.

Otterdahl placed fourth in the weight throw at the 2021 NCAA Indoor Championships, launching a then-career-best 73-05.25 (22.38m) on his final attempt. His fourth-place finish made him the third-highest Bison placewinner ever at the NCAA Division I Indoor Championships.

Competition Format
Each competitor in the throwing events is allowed three attempts in the preliminary round. The nine best marks, after tie-breaking, will advance to the final and earn three more throws.

All-America Honors
The top eight finishers in all events will earn first team All-American honors, and places 9 through 16 will be named second team All-Americans.

NDSU has claimed 13 All-America honors in men's indoor track & field at the Division I level, including five honors in the throwing events alone last season.

Following a Legend
North Dakota State's Payton Otterdahl swept the throwing event titles at the 2019 NCAA Indoor Championships, becoming only the second man in NCAA history to win both the shot put and weight throw at the Division I national meet. He is the older brother of
Trevor Otterdahl.

The Bison men finished 12th in the team standings at the 2021 NCAA Indoor Championships, totaling 15 team points. NDSU outscored every school in the Big Ten and Big 12 Conferences last year.
