FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State women's basketball team recently wrapped up summer workouts with an eight-day trip to Greece.
Over the span of eight days, the Bison had the opportunity to practice, play two games and learn about the culture in Greece from Aug. 2-10. NDSU spent the first four days in Athens before concluding the trip in Glyfada.
"I had very high expectations for our team trip to Greece," said head coach
Jory Collins. "The trip exceeded every expectation. It was an absolute joy to see our players and staff get the opportunity of a lifetime. Getting to see them experience the culture, basketball, and camaraderie together was very fulfilling for all of us. It is something that will stay with all of us. We're very grateful to have had the chance to represent NDSU on the international stage."
NDSU began the trip with a tour of Athens, including stops at Panathenaic Stadium and The Acropolis. The Bison then faced the Dream Team, which was made up of European professional players, in the first game of the trip with NDSU coming up short in the final minutes, 59-55.
In the second game of the trip,
Elle Evans lifted the Bison past the Greek Select Team, 77-75, with a jumper in the final seconds. The Bison were then able to take a three-island cruise that had stops at Hydra, Poros and Aegina. NDSU concluded the trip with three days in Glyfada and attended the Greece men's national team game against the Spain national team at The Olympic Stadium in Athens.
"Greece was amazing," said senior guard
Heaven Hamling. "I'm so thankful for the opportunity to spend such a great time with my teammates and coaches. We created memories that will last a lifetime."
