OMAHA, Neb. – The North Dakota State volleyball team extended its season-best win streak to five matches after picking up a 3-1 victory over Omaha on Saturday afternoon at Baxter Arena.
With the win, the Bison improve to 16-7 (8-4 Summit) on the season. Head coach
Jennifer Lopez also earned her 100th career victory and becomes one of only five coaches in NDSU history to reach the 100-win mark.
Ali Hinze paced the Bison posting her fourth straight double-double performance with a match-high 17 kills to go along with 10 digs.
Kelley Johnson handed out a match-best 36 assists with eight digs, while
Alexis Boling also reached double digits in kills with 11.
The Bison opened the contest building a 7-3 edge following a service error. Both teams then settled in trading points until Omaha (10-12,9-3 Summit) was able to lock the frame, 19-19, following a kill from Rachel Fairbanks. The Bison then assembled a 4-2 run to grab a 24-21 lead after a kill from Hinze. NDSU went on to close out the set, 25-23.
Omaha fought back in the second stanza building a 17-13 advantage by the midway point following a kill from Fairbanks. NDSU worked its way back with a kill from
Lauren Jansen and a service ace from
Morgan Middleton to cut the deficit to two, 17-15. However, the Bison couldn't cut the edge down any further and dropped the frame, 25-18.
Omaha carried the energy into the third set opening up a 19-16 lead after a kill from Fairbanks. The Bison responded with three straight points of their own to lock the frame, 19-19, following an ace from
Ava Schmoll. NDSU then stole momentum closing the frame on a 6-2 run, including two kills from Blohm to win the set, 25-21.
The Bison started to put the match away with a 5-0 run to make the score 14-9 in the fourth set after a block from Boling and
Ally Barth. NDSU then stretched its lead up to 17-11 following a kill from Hinze. The Bison went on to hold off the Mavericks the rest of the way to win the set, 25-21, and the match, 3-1.
NDSU will be back in action hosting South Dakota State on Thursday night. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m., at Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.
