BROOKINGS, S.D. – The North Dakota State volleyball team topped South Dakota State, 3-0, on Thursday night at Frost Arena.
Ali Hinze paced the Bison (11-5, 3-2 Summit) with a season-high 20 digs to go along with 11 kills and three blocks.
Alexis Boling added a team-high 12 kills with a .346 hitting percentage, while
Kelley Johnson handed out a team-high 36 assists with seven digs and four blocks.
Taylor Quan also reached double figures with 11 digs on the defensive end.
The two teams worked through the first set that saw nine ties and four lead changes. South Dakota State (3-13, 1-3 Summit) used back-to-back kills from Sylvie Zgonc to open up a 22-19 advantage. The Jackrabbits continued to surge pushing their lead to 24-22 after a kill from Katie Van Egdom. The Bison answered with two straight points, including a block from
Arianna Blohm and Johnson to lock the set, 24-24. NDSU then closed the stanza with two more points capped off by a kill from Hinze to seal the frame, 26-24.
NDSU carried the energy into the second set running out to an 11-9 lead after a kill from Hinze. The two teams then exchanged points to find themselves deadlocked, 22-22, following a kill from Zgonc. The Bison regained the lead after an attack error and kill from Hinze to steal the edge, 24-22. NDSU held off SDSU the rest of way, 25-23.
The Bison grabbed control of the match in the third set with three straight points capped off by a solo block from Hinze to make the score 11-8. NDSU then stretched its lead to 21-17 following a kill from Blohm. The Bison went on to close out the set, 25-20, and the match, 3-0.
NDSU will be back in action hosting South Dakota on Saturday. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m., at Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.
