FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State volleyball head coach
Jennifer Lopez has announced the addition of five student-athletes on signing day.
Layla Haritatos, Rhiannon Robertson, Emily Bruss, Maddy Dombeck and Tanith Roush will join the Bison in the fall of 2024.
"Our 2023 class is a well-rounded group of individuals, and we are thrilled to be adding Layla, Rhiannon, Emily, Maddy, and Tanith," said Lopez. "These five excel both on and off the court, and we are excited to see them compete as Bison."
Haritatos was a two-year letterman at Franklin High School totaled 591 digs and 100 aces over two seasons. The Franklin, Tenn., native was a two-time First Team All-District selection and the Defensive of Player of the Year in her junior season. The 5-4 libero also earned a spot on the 2021 AVCA Phenom list.
"Layla is a dynamic defender that reads and understands the game extremely well," said Lopez. "She plays with a lot of passion and will be a great addition to our backcourt game."
Robertson was a four-year letterman at Durand High School and totaled 388 kills with 234 digs and 28 total blocks in her senior season. The 6-1 outside hitter earned First Team All-Conference honors in her junior season after connecting on a career-high 417 kills with 272 digs and 37 total blocks. The Durand, Ill., native also played basketball and softball.
"Rhiannon is a strong athlete and great competitor with a heavy arm," said Lopez. "Her ability to play six rotations will provide depth to both our offensive system and backcourt defense."
Bruss is a three-year letterwinner at Luxemburg Casco High School. The Suamico, Wis., native earned First Team All-Conference honors in her sophomore and junior seasons along with a spot on the All-State Honorable Mention list. The 5-11 setter handed out a career-high 634 assists in her sophomore season with 161 digs and 32 total blocks. Bruss also participated in track and field and made an appearance in the state championship in the 300-meter hurdles.
"Emily is a setter with immense athletic ability," said Lopez. "She has the skill and speed to set at the highest level, and we are looking forward to seeing her develop in our offensive system."
Dombeck was a four-year letterwinner at Farmington High School and the set the program record with over 2,000 career assists. The 5-8 setter recorded 500 or more assists in three seasons in high school, including a career-high 550 in her junior season. Her sister, Danielle Hinrichsen, also played at NDSU from 2010-13.
"Maddy is a multi-dimensional athlete, who not only sets, but has a strong defensive game that will add depth to our backcourt play as well," said Lopez. "She is a vocal leader that plays with a level of energy that others feed off of."
Roush was a three-year letterwinner at Ankeny High School. The opposite/right side hitter earned First Team All-Conference and Second Team All-State honors in her junior season after totaling a career-high 289 kills with 64 total blocks and 42 digs. The Ankeny, Iowa native helped her team to three straight state tournament appearances and also participated in track and field.
"Tanith is an excellent blocker and uses her athleticism to play high and fast in the front row," said Lopez. "She will add a dimension to our offensive and defensive systems that is going to be fun to watch."
NDSU will be back in action hosting Kansas City on Thursday. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m., at Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.
